The Capital Culinary Institute at Keiser College hosted its Annual Student Chef/ DJ Cook Off at the Tallahassee Campus. The participants: Clear Channel Radio Stations DJs, and a select group of student chefs. The outcome: Chef Matrell and DJ Carrie (WTNT-94.9 FM) take first place.
"It was a very intense competition", said Chef Matrell. "DJ Carrie and I had a great time pulling together a three course meal using the ingredients presented before us in the "Mystery Box". All of the competitors were great and I am just relieved we were able to pull off a win our first time out."
The slide show below shows Chef Matrell and DJ Carrie preparing the winning recipes.
The theme of the competition was Caribbean Cuisine, the format; Mystery Box. All of the contestants were presented with a whole red snapper, shrimp, and pork, local and tropical fruits and vegetables, and a fully stocked pantry that held basic ingredients and spices.
Chef Matrell and DJ Carrie's imaginations and creativity were put to the test as they were challenged to create a three course meal in one hour. The end result (main course):
Cornmeal crusted fried snapper, served with coconut rice, ginger pecan green beans and a tropical fruit salsa.
The contestants were judged on sanitation, plate presentation, and taste.
Congratulations to Chef Matrell and DJ Carrie on a job well done!
